Peepli Live is an upcoming Hindi film which is produced by Aamir Khan. The movie has been directed and written by first-time filmmaker, Anusha Rizvi, a former journalist herself. The film is presented under the banner Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures. The movie has been tagged as a savage attack on the media and politicians’ response to farmers’ suicide. This is the first feature film for most of the actors who appear in the film but several have a background in theatre. The family is about to lose their land because they are unable to repay a loan, when, they hear of a government programme which offers the family of any farmer committing suicide a compensation of rupees 100,000 ($2000). ‘Peepli Live’ tries to tackle some of the real-life problems of farmer suicides in the rural parts of India. The land ownership problems have been portrayed in a very humorous and witty fashion.
